Serpent and the Rainbow, The came out in 1988 and was directed by the ever-engorged Wes Craven. We have used science (and possibly the box cover) to determine that this movie fits perfectly into the "Voodoo Horror" genre.

During the time we had our polls open, 250 shifty viewers just like you weighed in on Serpent and the Rainbow, The. 172 of 'em thought it was great! 78 thought it was shit. Takes all kinds.

This is a Dave and Jim's B-Movie Review. This review was written some time between 1996 and 2001. Once you've sucked the marrow from this one, you can head back to the full list to pick another review for savoring. Do it again and again.

Dave's Review

What's really cool about this movie is the way the subject of voodoo was examined from a totally scientific point of view. I guess Wes Craven was willing to admit that his audience has brains bigger than walnuts. I would have rated it higher, but it seemed to drag on with a romantic interest for too long.

Jim's Review

This was one of the few works by Wes Craven I actually like. It covered the voodoo magic in an original manner, and most of the scenes were interesting. The entire movie kept me interested (Except for that relationship crap). This movie also deals with Zombies from the point of view of the Voodoo religion. It is really fascinating, and well explained. This movie is easily worth watching once, the movie is good, not great, but the movie has some really wonderful ideas behind it.
