Das Boot Review

Das Boot came out in 1981 and was directed by the ever-twitchy Wolfgang Petersen. We have used science (and possibly the box cover) to determine that this movie fits perfectly into the "WWII" genre.

During the time we had our polls open, 372 shifty viewers just like you weighed in on Das Boot. 245 of 'em thought it was great! 127 thought it was shit. Takes all kinds.

This is a Dave and Jim's B-Movie Review. This review was written some time between 1996 and 2001. Once you've sucked the marrow from this one, you can head back to the full list to pick another review for savoring. Do it again and again.

Dave's Review

This incredibly realistic WWII U-boat movie is a true masterpiece. Everything about it was fantastically made. I'm still amazed at some of that camera work. How they were ever able to maneuver for some of those shots, I'll never know. I don't usually go for war movies, but I'm always willing to make exceptions for greatness.

Jim's Review

This movie was a really great movie experience. The camera work was impressive, the acting was wonderful, and the submarine set they used was unbelievable. This movie really should not be reviewed on a B-movie page, it deserves much better. I could see very few flaws in this movie, there is one common complaint I have heard from a few people, they believe Das Boot is boring as hell. I disagree with this opinion, but it is quite common, if you are just looking for a mindless action movie, there are better choices out there, but I found Das Boot to be extremely exciting, and it had plenty of action of superb quality if you have some patients.
