Dave's To-Read List
Back to Books!
Hmm… I created this page and then promptly forgot it existed. On the plus side, I did read the one book I added. Here’s the review: Dave’s book review for The Genius Myth.
-
The Genius Myth: A Curious History of a Dangerous Idea by Helen Lewis (origin: heard a great interview with her on a podcast, the book sounds great. I really liked her preference for a person having, "a genius for…" and "a work of genius" over a person being a genius.)
In terms of keeping track of the books I want to read, I have two separate methods:
-
The non-fiction to-read "list" mostly exists as several stacks of physical books in strategic locations around the house.
-
The fiction to-read "list" mostly exists as e-books loaded on my Kobo.
An additional thing I did to keep track of to-read e-books was add a custom column to Calibre (the e-book reader/converter/manager program) called "From" in which I put a note about where I heard about the book.
Examples of what I might put in the From column:
-
Heard podcast interview with author
-
Monkeyboy recommended because "fun characters"
-
Write-up in Spectrum magazine
I also mentioned the From column in How I manage my e-books with Calibre.
I’ve also printed out lists with books in a series in order and put it by my bedside so I don’t have to go look up the next book on a computer when I finish a book and want to move on to the next.
I suppose I could write a to-read wishlist and keep it there too to help me remember what I want to read (along with why I want to read it). Hmm…I should try that. Maybe I’ll use a cheap little notebook.
