Web Page or It Didn't Happen!
This goes by many forms:
-
Pictures or it didn’t happen
-
Screenshot or…
-
Blog post or…
-
Documentation or…
-
README or…
-
Source code or it didn’t happen
The point is, you can do the coolest project, but if you don’t put it in a form where other people can see it, it’s not doing much good, right?
I see source repos all the time that seem to contain some sort of amazing project, but there’s no README!
Or someone will mention something amazing they did in a Discord chat group, but it has no web page. There’s literally nowhere to go see this thing other than the chat.
I totally get it. Writing is hard. I write a lot, and it’s still the one thing I cannot do with distractions. I can program with distractions, I can draw with distractions, but I can’t write.
And on some of my smaller projects, it sometimes takes me twice as long to make a write-up about it with screenshots and diagrams and stuff than the project took to make. I’m not joking. But it’s totally worth it. Not only are those write-ups (hopefully) useful to other people, they’re useful to me later.
Furthermore, it’s hard to put yourself out there. But please see: sharing.
I regret not having screencaps, at the bare minimum, of some of my earliest projects. Full write-ups would be even better.
Failed projects also deserve to be honored. My notes about my failed attempts have, on more than one occasion, prevented me from going down the same road a second time!
